REGIONAL ANAESTHESIA Concomitant infraclavicular plus distal median, radial, and ulnar nerve blockade accelerates upper extremity anaesthesia and improves block consistency compared with infraclavicular block alone

چکیده
Editor’s key points † The hypothesis tested was that the addition of distal nerve blocks to an infraclavicular block would speed up onset. † Infraclavicular block with or without distal blocks of the median, ulnar, and radial nerves were compared using the same total dose of local anaesthetic. † A more rapid onset and more consistent block occurred in the combined group. Background. This prospective, randomized, observer-blinded study tested the hypothesis that a combined ultrasound-guided block of the infraclavicular brachial plexus plus distal median, radial, and ulnar nerves would accelerate upper extremity anaesthesia compared with infraclavicular block alone.

Ultrasound does not shorten the duration of procedure but provides a faster sensory and motor block onset in comparison to nerve stimulator in infraclavicular brachial plexus block
BACKGROUND Infraclaviculr Brachial plexus (ICBP) block is useful for upper extremity surgery. The aim of this study was to compare the ultrasound (US) technique with the nerve stimulation (NS) technique in their success rates and times to perform ICBP block. METHODS 60 patients undergoing surgery of the upper limb were randomly allocated into two groups (n = 30 per group). Group 1; US, and Gr...
متن کاملA randomised comparative evaluation of supraclavicular and infraclavicular approaches to brachial plexus block for upper limb surgeries using both ultrasound and nerve stimulator
BACKGROUND AND AIMS The supraclavicular and infraclavicular brachial plexus blocks have a similar distribution of anaesthesia, and both can be used effectively for surgeries of the upper limb. This study aimed to compare the supraclavicular and infraclavicular approaches of brachial plexus blocks, guided by ultrasound and neurostimulation. METHODS Sixty adult patients scheduled for elective u...

Objectives: Ultrasound-guided supraclavicular and infraclavicular blocks are commonly used for upper extremity surgery. The primary aims of our study were to compare block success, block onset times and performance times; secondary aims were to compare the number of needle advancements, and incidence of adverse events of ultrasound-guided supraclavicular or infraclavicular blocks. Methods: 110 ...
متن کاملUltrasound-guided Infraclavicular Brachial Plexus Block for Supracondylar Humerus Fracture in a Patient with Central Obstructive Sleep Apnoea due to Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease
The use of regional anaesthesia techniques in the presence of degenerative neurological disease is a relative contraindication. The subsequent reticence of anaesthesiologists is perhaps reflected in the absence of any published cases of a CharcotMarie-Tooth (CMT) patient that received a peripheral nerve blockade for surgery. We report a CMT patient, who presented with a supracondylar distal hum...

Background: Opioids added to local anesthetics for peripheral nerve blocks may intensify analgesia and prolong analgesic and sensorial block duration. These agents may also cause potentiation and prolongation of motor block. Objective: This study compared the postoperative effects of 30 mL of 0.25% bupivacaine +50 mcg fentanyl and 30 mL of 0.25% bupivaca...
